What is NSFAS?

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a government entity that provides financial aid to eligible students who wish to study at public universities and TVET colleges in South Africa.

NSFAS provides comprehensive funding that covers:

  • Registration and Tuition Fees
  • Accommodation or Transport
  • Meals
  • Books and Learning Materials

Eligibility Criteria

Basic Requirements

  • South African citizen
  • SASSA grant recipients automatically qualify
  • Combined household income not exceeding R350,000 per year

Academic Requirements

  • Grade 9-12 learners and students studying at TVET colleges
  • Accepted at a public university or TVET college
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress

Required Documents

Personal Documents

  • Copy of your ID document
  • Parent/Guardian ID documents
  • Proof of residence

Financial Documents

  • Proof of income (Pay slips or affidavit)
  • SASSA letter (if applicable)
